Talk at 38. German Sociology Conference, Bamberg

Germany, University Bamberg, German Sociology Conference
September 2016

Jeremias, Esther and Gregor have presented the team paper comparing the 2015 Encyclical Letter, the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement at the meeting of the German Sociological Association, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziologie.
They were invited by Anna Henkel, Henning Laux and Markus Schroer to participate in the panel called „Die Erde, der Mensch und das Soziale: Zur Transformation Gesellschaftlicher Naturverhältnisse im Anthropozän“.

The paper elaborates a scaled relationship in which two faces of the current sustainability debate are mutually dependent: the affirmative idea of a global community, individual participation and collective responsibility on the one hand goes hand in hand with the strengthening of national states and with the installation of a global accounting apparatus.
